Assignment 23: Your Venture's Unfair Advantage

1. I am passionate about the topic I have chosen for my business idea

  • V: I think it is incredible valuable, because passion is what keeps us going with a project.
  •  R: I think it is rare among people, but not among entrepreneurs.
  •  I: It is different for each, but everyone can be passionate. So I will say that it is inimitable.
  • N: This not substitutable. You cant pretend to be passionate about something and it will effect how you do something.

2. I know what I can can accomplish with these plants and how I can make them into products.

  • V: This is valuable as it gives the idea a foundation.
  • R: I don't think this knowledge is rare, because if you look into things made with plants you can find this out.
  • I: This knowledge is indeed inimitable, as I have learned it form others.
  • N: No, besides someone else who knows this.

3. I am not afraid to ask for help if I need it.

  • V: Yes, this gives me the ability to get help when I need it.
  • R: No.
  • I: I know that others have this ability, so I will say that it maybe difficult.
  • N: You can have others do it for you, but you have to hire them or ask them too.

4. I am determined.

  • V: Yes, this gives me a stubbornness that will keep me at it even when things aren't good.
  • R: No.
  • I: It would be difficult.
  • N: Not really

5. We have made prototypes.

  • V: Yes, this lets me that our products are accurately possible.
  • R: Not really, it is part of the process and anyone can make a prototype.
  • I: Yes.
  • N: Yes, because of the information that our prototype provided.

6. The company mixes old idea with new ideas.

  • V: Yes, because we are doing new things, but keeping old and familiar ideas.
  • R: No, most companies are doing this now.
  • I: Yes. Most of our mixing is done in the business setup.
  • N: Maybe, but I do not personally know of one.

7. I like to learn.

  • V: Yes, this will allow me to want to try new things and keep up to date with information.
  • R: Many people like to learn, so not really.
  • I: I don't know how to really answer if it is inimitable.
  • N: I think so, because the only real substitution is learning about something else.

8. I am hard working.

  • V: Yes, it mean that I put my all into things.
  • R: No, many people are hard working.
  • I: I don't know how to answer if it is inimitable.
  • N: I think so, because nothing can really substitute it in my mind.

9. I am a problem solver.

  • V: Yes, it means I will be willing to work through road blocks.
  • R: No, others are able to solve problems.
  • I: I don't know how to answer this.
  • N: I think so.

10. I have a group that is willing work on this with me.

  • V: Yes, because more minds are better than one. And you have people who are willing to help.
  • R: No, other companies start out as teams.
  • I: Yes, but I don't think that our individuals can be imitated.
  • N: I do not think that there are any substitutes for having a team.

I think that I have a few really good human capital resources, but personally I view passion as being the best. Without this type of drive many things fail.

  1. Hi Kaitlyn,
I agree that passion is a really important resource since without it you would not have been able to come out with such a helpful idea. Moreover, passion also helps you come out with better ideas and work harder for your business idea. I also think having a group working with you would be innovative but you would need to learn how to manage and lead them correctly. Good post.

  2. Hi Kaitlyn. Your passion for your business idea will be valuable as your business develops and must overcome obstacles for growth. I agree that being determined will keep you focused on your goals when your business skills are tested. There really is no substitution for this trait, as the entrepreneur must persevere through setbacks to become successful. I also think your desire to learn will be useful as you seek to expand your business. One recommendation I have is to define the roles within the group willing to help you help you so there is a clear structure, and everyone can be held accountable for their jobs.

  3. Being a problem solver has a lot more value than one thinks. Many engineers are hired in jobs that are not engineering jobs. But they are hired because they have an acute ability to problem solve. Which is why I believe problem solving is probably one of the most important attributes to have.
