Assignment 3: My Entrepreneurship Story

My first experience with entrepreneurship was summer semester of 2018 when I enrolled in the class IDS1359: Creativity-in-Action. This class had students come together in groups and create a business around a specific concept. For our year it was about biodiversity; how can we preserve or help improve biodiversity. My group came up with the company Leafy Lifestyles. Our company focuses on using invasive species to create products for the populous. Part of the assignment was to present our idea to judges at Catalyst, a science fair style competition. We created a prototype air filter our of paper mulberry and pitched our company to the people and judges attending. WE actually managed to win the category of "The Power of Design". It wasn't always fun, but I am really proud of what we came together and presented.

I am taking Ent3003 because my minor requires it, but I am hoping that I can learn from this class as much as I learn form my last one. I want this class to expand my knowledge of how to be able to create amazing ideas and show them with the world.

  1. Hey Kaitlyn,
That is a really cool experience that you had and it sounds like an innovative creation you had. Entrepreneurship is definitely defined as the act of solving problems and it sounds like you were on the right track with that. Being a business oawner for 10 years now, I can relate and verify that being an entrepreneur is often not easy and typically more stressful than doing the same roles as an employee. However, the benefits from a perspective of self satisfaction, freedom in your life, and the payoff of hard work to see something come to fruition is amazing. Keep up the creativity!
